Ron Clay is on a distinguished road
Default A great morning's roach fishing

Although I love fly fishing for trout and other fish, my favourite form of fishing is using simple float tackle for quality roach, on either still water or river.

This morning I went out to a local Notts lake and caught 24 roach over 12oz, 8 over the pound with the best accurately weighed at 1lb 9 oz.

The roach were all caught on simple waggler tackle using bread flake and stewed wheat for bait. All very classical it was - or perhaps not!.

I do not possess a split cane roach rod, a gut cast, or a silk line!

But it was great fun.
