Default Mitchell 300

Just brought myself a Mitchell 300 off EBay even though I no longer Course fish.

I couldn't resist as it immediately reminded me of early morning gravel pit tench sessions at Ashton Keynes back in the 70s when I was a kid. Ah, those were the days.

Don't even know if I'll get the chance to use it, but it will be nice just to get it out now and again for a quick wind and a fondle.

Graham

P.S. I had a quick bid on a 1947 claw bail arm model, but it went for silly money in the end. About £285 I think.

Well done Graham, I often give mine a quick fondle as well, the reel that is.

i purchased 2 in the late 70s for tench/carp fishing........still use them when fishing cosy d/t carp venues, & not a worn bearing in sight!
All my friends wonder why I back-wind when playing carp etc on todays bait runner reels......they clearly never came up against the 300 clutch!!!

I recently sold 8 50'series reels from 501 t0 506m and not long before that two mitchell match reels with the finger dab bail , i have a daiwa auto finger dab reel which ive had for years and i wont part with it its a better reel than the mitchell as it has a shorter stem on the foot and makes finger control when trotting a joy, and they are still the only ones with a finger dab bail that you can also close manually instead of spinning the reel to close the bail arm
DAIWA 1657DM FINGER DAB REEL on eBay (end time 18-Mar-10 19:46:12 GMT)

Totally agree with you on the diawa mate, got one of them too - That and my diawa stick 13' was a fantastic outfit on rivers - just not as sentimental as the 300 I got as a chrimbo pressy as a 12 year old

How did ya get on today Bruce??

Blimey, I've got one of those claw bail arm models and a Mitchell Automatic (precursor to the match) from the early 60s, both still in their boxes with manuals. Who'd have thunk it?

Got a mint, boxed Ambidex too, wonder how much they're worth?
