Default Best ever perch catch.

I had a two hour session on my local river yesterday afternoon. Started at 4pm and ended at 6. The bag was eight perch on lobworms tipped with two red maggots. I weighed each one as caught. They went 2-8, 2-9, 2-10, 2-11, 2-12, 2-14, 3-1, 3-3. That is my personal best ever net of perch and follows on from a session there three weeks ago when I had a 2-2, 2-8, 2-12 from the same swim. I was cursing myself as I had left my camera at home, but on reflection my hands were so cold I doubt I could have taken any photos worth having anyway. There is another swim on that stretch of river that I know holds some good perch so I'll have a look at that next time out.

I'd have been happy with the one that went 2-8, that's some bag, well done.

My dad and I used to get some crackers from Market Weighton canal at Newport when I was a kid. The water was crystal clear which meant the fish were very well marked - a good size clear water perch really is an impressive fish.

All the best - Steve

Sure beats my best ever perch catch!! Mine was 17 from the same swim (on a river) last summer. Smallest about a pound and biggest about 13/4 pounds. I was well chuffed with that...

My best ever perch is only 2.4 but I'm intent on upping this!

I know Grafham has some big perch as does Chew. My best ever perch came from Chew about 7 or 8 years ago. 3-14 on a white booby on the lift. Doesn't seem quite the same though. I suppose it's a bit like catching a double figure brown on a plug meant for a pike or zander - great but not quite "right".

My local canal has some big perch too, and as it's open during the normal closed season I might try fly rodding for one before the algal blooms render it too coloured.
