Default Pike

just wondering how many other pike anglers are on here and what methods you normally use?

i'm a bit of an all rounder but grew up on pike fishing and fished nainly bait until this year when i made it a mission to use lures and catch more pike, before lure fishing was just something to do while the deadbaits were soaking. My views have now changed and i'm an avid lure angler for all species but mainly pike and perch taking good numbers of both to pretty good weights this year.

i also got into building my own jerkbaits which are doing quite well for the people who are using them.

so are you a soaker or a chucker?

Usually when I go pike fishing I'll use lures (especially in the summer/autumn) but I do occasionally use deadbaits (long trotting them on my local river ... great fun).

Love to fish the lure off a baitcaster............great fun. I also enjoy fishing a deadbait under a float, I use a single jig hook for this. Great presentation and nice and easy to unhook.......................birdsnest

Yes, it works a treat. All you do is tackle up your float gear (I use a small slider). Tie a wire trace with a snap link on the end. Then using a suitably sized jig hook, 2/0 to 4/0 is about right for a small deadbait, ease the eye under the skin of the deadbait from just behind the head to exit behind the doral. The exact positions can vary, depending on what attitude that you want the bait to hang at. All you do is clip on the trace and away you go. This idea does not like long casts but a little under-arm lob will get you plenty of distance. I've had loads of pike like this, never missed a run, never had a problem un-hooking.........yet..........give it a go..........birdsnest

OK, lets all join in....

Livebaiting is my favourite - a 10" wild brownie usually scores well
