What is the difference in the use of wide or narrow spools and their relative uses.

technically nothing ,both are equally as good for ledgering or floatfishing .

there is a reasoning that narrow spools are better for float fishing and wide spools better for ledgering and theres the train of thought that wide spools are better for fishing for bigger fish as it spreads the load on the line & spool better ,and narrow drums are better for smaller fish .

But its down to personal prefferances .i have both types ,dont really notice any difference ,but with a wider spool you can spread your line out to aliviate line bedding in when using heavier lines for ledgering with for say barbel .but you have the extra weight .

i do prefer the narrow drum reels ,i guess but i do have 4 wide spool reels to my five narrow ones ,or more like i like different reels for different jobs
