Default Reel seats ?

Hi Guys

"Most" modern possibly all rods now have the threaded screw up type reel seats rather than the old fashioned two sliding rings, what the heck do you call the old type ??

Im after a light, soft 12', 13' match type rod with the old fashioned type seat any ideas ?? Does anyone still make them ?? Dont want to spend ££££££'s

They're just called sliding reel fittings....but why would you want them? glad to see the back of them myself! Also, be careful, as they will not necessarily fit all modern reel footings (I have this problem with some of my older rods which still have them - won't properly fit some of my newer reels)

ps - scout about on ebay and you should be able to find some older carbon match rods pretty cheap. Can't think of any current models which have them, no point! Modern screw lock versions are more advanced and comfortable than the original exposed screw up fittings - usually sort of hidden within the handle now

Sliding band reel seats

very popular with bamboo/split cane fly rod builders!

google & have a look at mudhole or goldenwitch rod building supplies

Those are more delicate Goldenolive - not really designed for a fixed spool reel on a match rod

Default reel seat

Have been looking for a light cork reel seat for a short brook rod myself, take a look at the REC catelog http://www.reelseats.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/21_22

I'm not sure if they still have them but my Drennan Tench Float Rod has sliding reel fittings. Very good they are too. Locks in fixed spool and centrepin reels no problem. I think they are sort sort of Fuji fitting.

I like them because you can alter the length of the handle to tuck under your arm. Personally I like having less handle from the reel to the butt of the rod. With a screw seat it's fixed. Bit of a pain when it comes to casting a 'pin otherwise.
