Default Barbed or Barbless?

What do you tend to use?
I have always fished barbless, but have recently switched to micro-barbed hooks. They give a much better hook hold and I was surprised at how very little damage is done to the fish.

Barbless, as per last debate on this:

* they go in easier so more hookups

* they come out easier so less damage to fish

* they come out easier so they come out you without surgery

* they dont catch in landing nets quite as viciously

But I've seen what barbless hooks can do to a decent carp. The hook slides about and penetrates multiple times throughout the fight, whereas a hook with a small barb will not move.

I don't think it happens much with trout. I use barbless for trout, and the hook seems to stay put with them especially when they are hooked in the scissors. But with carp especially in long fights it does seem to be able to slide about a fair bit.

I am a big barbless fan but rules vary from water to water. I am off to Yateley this week for a well deserved long weekend away from Mrs BN and according to their rules all hooks over size 18 must be barbed. Regardless of what species you fish for.....................birdsnest

just to add to that they come out of your clothes easier too theres nothing more frustrating than attempting to take a barb out of your top. even better the back of your jeans

I always fish barbless, no matter what I am fishing for!

You may lose the odd fish that bumps or roles off the hook, but so what.

Also, barbless hooks are easier to get out of your finger, or whatever part of your anatomy that will sooner or later get hooked!
