Default Glorious 16th...

I headed to my local river today to do bit of trotting. I got to the river for 5.30 and was fishing by 6. The river was like a painting, mist settling on the water and the orange sun illuminating the landscape.

I started trotting maggots down the swim and watched as a weasel crossed the river using a tree. My float soon bobbed and I was into a small roach. A few more casts and I had several dace, my first of that species.

A short time later I also had a nice chub

I then made my way down to a pool I had not fished yet. As I approached it I spooked a fish which was probably a chub. I then had a couple of more dace and saw a bolt of electric iridescent blue of a darting kingfisher.

I then made my way back to another swim and had two more chub. One around 2lb and the other a good 3lb, which I now wished I had knocked on the head after seeing what it had done in the photo.

I then fished another swim and saw a deep run underneath a tree. I thought that a trout would be sitting here, and on the first trot through the float shot under and I had a chub of around 2 1/2 lb

Well Done, here I am stuck in work, the 16th used to me the day I looked forward to most in the year, couldn't wait to get out, I remember walking 3 miles, with my tackle on a trolley just to fish a prolific tench water one year, got there at 7pm on the 15th, set up, sat and waited, those were the days

Nice pictures but the one of a Roach, I don't think it is a true roach, wrong mouth and shape, I may be very wrong though

Chris

It is a Dace, and I do not think he suggests otherwise.

Well done. Where is that? PM me if you dont want it public Is the top pic the same river, it looks like a canal?

By the way, just had a quick look at your blog, that skimmer you caught the other day (Sollom) could have a touch of hybrids about it, cant quite make up my mind!

Another fisherman has said that skimmer is probably a hybrid, so it probably is.

The top pics are of the canal which runs parallel to the river.
I've PM'd you about the stretch.

Aye that's it, have you fished the river much there?
One of the fishermen there today said he had a small brown trout?

A man there today also told me the EA stocked it a few years ago. I've not had any barbel, but I've heard they're in. Sounds like there's all sorts of creatures in there
