Default Final fling of the season

Managed to get a few hours on the lower Derwent this morning before the season ends tomorrow. It was a lovely morning and was greeted by a Kingfisher darting upstream. The day was made even better by the fish in the pictures. Neither fish massive with each being about 3LB, neverless a great way to end the season.

Oh I dunno... I've seen a lot worse. Scale-wise it's a hard one to fault, some of them look like they've seen the inside of a woodchipper

Nice fish Simon, what bait did you take them on?

I agree the tail fin is a bit grubby in on the Chub but apart from that it wasn't in bad nick. To be honest the Barbel had more scales missing. The lice were removed before it went back.

Dave - Nothing classic about the baits I caught them on Pellet wrapped in Halibut paste. In my defence the river was up a bit and carrying quite a bit of colour so I needed something they could find through sense of smell.

Nice fish to end with! I like ths angle of the pic for the barbel makes it look kind of moody...

I agree that some chub can look right tatty at times. I sometimes wonder if they argue with each other over territory or food etc. like you see tropical fish in tanks doing.

Went out for an early session today myself and managed to finnish with my best chub of the season at exactly five pounds (plus anothert pair of three pounders). All taken on breadflake under roots and cover.

Very nice fish riverat. You deserve double points for catching on breadflake
