Default Trotting Travel Rod

It seems that the coarse fisher is happy to have long poles in their cars. I like my fly rods at 4 peices because they slot in the boot and stay there.

The only travel trotting rod I have seen is the Shakespeare Mach 1 13' Match Travel rod 5 pieces. Seems great value at £36.

However are there any opinions or alternatives others know of?

Hardy do a 4 piece Avon. Expensive!

I have a Harrison's 11ft 4 piece stepped up Avon which lies permanently in the boot and has been used for everything from mullet to pollack to grayling trotting to salmon spinning. As far as I know they still do them. If you are trotting for big chub or barbel it's ideal.

Carl I have this rod and it is an unbelievable rod for the money even more so than Shakeys normal vfm it is my go to float rod and has been used for trotting for grayling and dace to Waggler fishing on a comercial carp water.

If I had paid £75 and it was a 3 piece I wouldn't have been dissapointed thats how good I think it is.

You will not be dissapointed.

The John Wilson Avon is avaible in a travel rod now as mentioned above, I own the normal one and don't think the rod is quick enough for trotting.

Buy the Shakey it is exactly what your after

Great thanks for that. I have sort of discounted the £319 Hardy smuggler

I think Masterline do the Bob James trotter in something like 6 or 8 pieces.

I've often moaned that the choice of multi-section/travel coarse fishing rods is much less than it is for fly rods. There's a few around, half decent telescopics too, but I think the manufacterers are missing a trick. I've noitced a few more travel carp rods, such as fox trekker series, but I guess thats because they're tapping into the foreign carp fishing holiday market. The ideal coarse rod for me would be 4 piece, so that way I can also break it down into just 2 sections for fishing in this country when I leave some rods set up (as I do with my 2 section barbel/chub rod I use on the local river)

Fladden do a pretty extensive range of travel rods around their Maxximus range including a Float rod.

Apart from the internet I have found no shops around where I work or where I live who supply them. So it looks as if I will be getting the Shakey as per the advice here. Everyone is also telling me the Okuma Aventa 1002 is the one to go for and not the Aventa 1000. I went to a fantastic little course tackle shop just on the edge of Maidenhead and they were offering them at £100. Looks like I need to start a new thread!

The snow has lead me tio spend to much time researching on the internet and I have found two great travel rods which are not that expensive IF you aviod the RRP:

John Wilson - Avon/quiver this looks a great buy and I have seen it for under £70.

J W Youngs - If you own their reels then the rods look really well made. Hard to find but I have seen their Barbel travel which reviews say is not really a Brabel rod for under £100.

Greys - have a 'Stalker rod' which can either be 9' or 12'.

I really like the idea of the John Wilson. I don't need it, but I am sure that as my new trotting obsession expands I can find an excuse to buy it.
