Carl,

I don't have the Wilson Travel Avon/Quiver but have owned the original version for nearly 20 years and I don't think they're up to the job for trotting but as a light leger/feeder/freeline-type rod, it can't be beaten (and I expect the travel version to be equally as good). You can use it for trotting but I would use it for trotting big floats for chub/barbel but not at distance ... it just doesn't pick up line quickly enough IMO.

I have a telscopic wilson avon with the detatchable quiver tips. Its not as stiff as a spigot jointed rod,, But I have used it all over the world on rivers and in the sea,, Great rod for the money.

I have written a review on the shop in the Tackle section. But it is worth reiterating Tackle Exchange in Walton on Thames is the place to go .......... I have never ever seen such an amazing eclectic collection of rods course and game.

Bamboos, secondhand, discontinued lines all at rediculously low prices.

J W Youngs Travel Barbel £89
Shakey Mach 3 rear drag - £31

For Centrepins he is de man. A few very reasonable SH Youngs.

No internet so you have to ring him

I bought the J W Youngs travel barbel on site and waggle.

It finished like a top end fly rod (how many course rods can you say that about ..... then they are a fraction of the price).

IMHO it is a fantastic trotting rod for bigger rivers and it comes on 5 pieces. I wish they did the trotter in a five piece.
