Default River Ure barbel

How far up the Ure would you expect to find barbel?

I have access to a beat above Masham - are they found this far up-river?

I have caught Barbel on the fly around the Wath area, they are reasonably plentiful. Some very old, wily big fish in that area, I managed one of over ten ponds on a czech nymph a few years ago. Can still remember the state of my underpants after landing it!!!!!

Oh I can well imagine Nick!

Where abouts is Wath? The water I have access to is just above Masham and although I would be mostly nymphing for grayling, my club does permit 'swimming the worm' in winter. It just got me wondering you know.....

You will find barbel all the way up to Redmire; one of biggest I have ever seen was about 2 miles above Wensley.Brian Morland caught a 14 back in the 70s in Masham area.

Hi Matt,

There should be barbel through that area, it will just be a matter of finding them.

Why the Ure when you have the Ribble on your doorstep?
