Default Pike

Anyone after pike this winter? i caught my first pike on a deadbait yesterday and also caught one on a lure.

I was bringing my lure back near the side and felt something pull, but i just thought it was weed at first but also noticed that when i felt this pull i saw a few small fish jump behind my lure. I then kept bringing my lure backwards and forwards not too far out when a small jack came from nowhere at some speed and engulfed my lure. It then jumped clear of the water and shook the hooks free. There's nothing better in fishing than seeing a fish smash into a lure

Seeing a fish take whether it's on a lure (surface lures are the most fun), a fly or a freelined bait is the best. There's no one "best" method ... they're all good fun.

yeah all of those are great, whether it's a trout taking a dry fly or a carp on bread, but there's something about seeing a pike just come out of its lair out of the depths and then engulfing the lure whole at such a speed

No matter how many times I see a pike hurl itself at a bait (or even snaffling a fish), it never ceases to to amaze me how fast they are over a short distance . The best bit is when you're just about about to take a lure out of the water (under your rod tip) and a pike explodes under your feet and wallops the lure ... you've just got to hope your heart doesn't give out

Even better...cast a large deerhair popper into the middle of some pads..give it a few tweaks then suddenly a bow wave appears, pads being pushed aside and flung into the air as a Pike launches itself at the fly for 15 feet away..and BANG...there is water and pads everywhere and the line zipps across the surface and the rod slams over...

Now thats exciting
