Might be a tad difficult to buy now though! Excellent in their day, but bail arm rollers not as good as modern (quality) equivalents.

Default braid capaicy / fish damage

Thanks all some good leads here. I'm leaning towards a bait runner for added flexibility. Two follow ups -

Does braid damage fish? Pike can roll the trace and I would have thought braid might cut them up. Or would you use a mono leader then wire trace?

Braid capacity - anyone got a ballpark method to estimate braid capacity from the stated mono capacity - accepting of course all brand diameters vary?

Mark

If you're after a baitrunner, I can recommend the Diawas. I've got a Regal z 4050 brt on my 9ft beastmaster for heavier lures although you'd probably need a smaller version for your set up. Also, this one might have been superseded by a newer model.
I've never had any problems with braid tangling round and cutting a pike. The only fish to wrap braid around itself in my experience was a good sized river brownie and it wasn't damaged.
Not sure how to estimate the amount of braid needed. It's not cheap so on deep spools, I use 15/20 lb mono as backing and then put on 100 yds of braid. Then you can do it all in reverse (braid then requisite amount of backing) on a spare spool and then wind on to your preferred spool perfectly.
Aword of warning. Don't fill your spool to the lip with braid - leave a little gap. If coils come off or you get wind knots round your spool, it's almost impossible to undo.

A little bit of braid won't cost a lot. Most tackle shops should have bulk power pro or whatever & will spool you up.

The diameters for most of the stuff can be found one their respective packages or websites.

My experience with it would have me suggest Fireline over braid. It's a bit thicker but easier to handle (not so many wind knots) Without checking, 20lb Fireline has about the thickness of 6 or 8lb mono...

I have had a few spinning reels and the Shimanos are nice but my fav are the little Penn Spinfishers.

Then again I use my stuff for chucking into the sea, well used to. It dosen't get used at all anymore.
