This thread is .erm..sort of about classic coarse fishing. An advert for a pond with three car parks , a road and platforms is about as far removed from my idea of classic coase fishing as it's possible to imagine.

Bit unfair Grayson, coarse fishing is coarse fishing.

If it wasn't for stocked stillwaters such as this, we would be in trouble, as access to rivers isn't always viable and they don't have the stocks they once had due to predation, pollution and poaching.

Coarse fishing has a wide remit; classic coarse fishing a narrower one and stocked commercials do not feature in it by my criteria.Access to rivers.. well where I live I can get access to hundreds of miles of river for a few quid spent on yearbooks. And despite the gloomy utterances of some the rivers in my area - NE and Yorkshire are generally in good health. Many of them are fishable for the first time since industrial revolution. Physical access not always good, but my disabled fishing mates are rarely seen at commercials.

You hit the nail on the head, the name 'classic coarse fishing' is likely the wrong name for this section on the forum.

I will petition admin at once.

Can someone define with some accuracy exactly at what point a day ticket coarse fishery (good) morphs into a commercial fishery (bad), please ?

I think it is when the biomass of stock exceeds significantly the biomass which would be sustainable without reliance on large quantities of bait. At its most farcical this results in bags of 500lbs of carp from small pools with little or no natural food. Another factor is the environment as a whole-the more extreme commercials are small, muddy, pegs too close and no trees or cover, burger vans, access roads enabling parking behind peg- I could go on...

Indeed, "classic" means whatever anyone wants it to mean, its a pointless word, so we may as well just call this section "coarse fishing" - that's what it used for, quite freely. If admin don't like the way people use it its up to them to get huffy about what they mean by "classic", not other forum members. Save the arguments about purism etc for the fly fishing sections

Is the un-used lake that was behind Railway Pool Phil? (from memory, been a while since I was there)

Not my idea of fishing either but each to their own, live and let live.
