Default Worm Tip

They can be a bu gger to keep on a barbless hook, so keep hold of those red Royal Mail elastic bands that come wrapped around your letters/packages.

Open them out and then using a scalpel or fine sharp scissors, cut them length ways up the middle.

You can also customise the length to suit.

Simply hook your worms then add one of the customised bands to secure them in place.

You can also use a bunch of bands together on the hook if you are short on worms, preferably having steeped a bunch of customised bands in a flavoring such as liquid bloodworm or such likes, even hook them up and dip in a glug before swinging them out.

Has worked for me on a number of species.

Hope this is of use.

The Pirate.

Good tip - also, the fake rubber maggots and corn you can buy now do the same thing and are buoyant enough to pop the worm up if you want it presented that way.

Yeh agree, I use fake corn and fake maggots as a 'stop' when fishing drilled pellets or boilies on feeder rigs.

They even come flavoured now, I got some recently that smelt lovely.

Fly fishing is OK, but you can't beat the real thing.

The late great Arthur Cove used a sliver of red rubber band as a bloodworm imitation. From memory he had 6 fish on six casts the first time he used it.
He took it off his leader and stamped it into the bankside mud never to be used ever again.

The fake maggots certainly work - a lot of my tench fishing now involves three red rubber maggots hair-rigged on a bolt rig. PVA stocking of red maggots hooked on and you have great presentation. The big advantage of the fakes is that you know they've not been chewed to pulp by little rudd. Takes a bit of a leap of faith to rely on an entirely fake bait, but fly fishing helps with that!
