I has my second session on the pin today... I have had some good chub on the club water on the fly so I decided that was to be my quarry... Pint of mixed maggot and a loaf of white bread were purchased... Early doors I was plagued by brownies, however I finally found the chub, had 3 nice fish on big bits of flake. all was Going great, inspite of a stiff breeze I could
hit the far margin with a nottingham cast quite comfortably.
My float slid under slowly, it looked like of had caught bottom, I thumbed the spool of the pin to hold back the line in t he hope that I could help the bait over the obsticle the float dipped again. I lifted the rod tip and felt a couple of gentle tugs. I reeled a little bit of linw in then suddenly the fish shows its hand... Ir screamed off down stream I use my thumb to conrol the fish as best as I could, a couple of more short but blistering runs convinced me to flick on the rachet... I turned it and won back most of the line . My hands were shaking at this point. Then it happened... The water erupted and a huge cocky salmon launched itself w feet our of the water shaking its head like an attack dog. The scrap continued for around 15 minutes, eventually I got the fish on its side it was huge... Slowly I inched it toward the bank then realised I had only a small folding trout net with me.. but I'd that's what I had to work with then so be it... The fish was a couple of feet from the bank, as I lowered the feeble net Omg the water the fish saw it and for a second wind, turned, shook its head once and snapped.my 4lb line like it was a spider web... I was dumb struck... I am not a salmon angled but if I has to guess I would put it at 15 pounds...
Talk about a steep learning curve, interesting playing such a big fish on a pin... I am going back soon
