Default Grayling trotting bonanza

Bit of a red letter day for me today, trotting for grayling on club stretch of the lower Dove. Had to move swims a few times once I'd taken a few (and lost a few) from a shoal but thankfully found more feeding fish each time. Ended up with around 30, four over 2lb, and lost another dozen or so. Oh, and half a dozen out of season broonies too, including two over 2lb, safely returned of course. The grayling there are very fickle and seem to do a disappearing act through the summer, re-appearing in autumn if you can time it right. Thankfully today I did. Still smiling. Taken on my Okuma 'pin and trusty 13' Gerry's of Nottingham Special Match rod.

Ah well Penk does mean Minnow! Do you recognise the reel? (the handles are a bit of a give away). I have given up trying to contact Okuma for some replacements (plus a front drag knob for an Okuma f/s reel), even going through two dealers has got nowhere. 0/10 for customer care.

ps - can't believe knob got caught by the swear filter, hence the italics!

Are the handles off a Speedia?

Er I believe they may well be Richard, well spotted! Didn't fit them myself, a certain Mr Chavender did when we did a 'pin swap a while back, because he'd taken the originals off and manage to loose the b*ggers. Long story going back a few years....I had a Trudex which I didn't get on with, swapped it with him for an Adcock Stanton copy he had (ex Rolls Royce factory job), then later swapped that back again with him for the Okuma at a work party for a club we're both in. The Speedia handles are a bit sticky but I only use them when playing fish so not really a problem, the reel itself I love. I did have a Leeds too but sold that and bought a Cortesi as a back up. I prefer modern bearings reels really for trotting, although old "proper" centre pins win on looks I have to admit.

i can confer they're a pair of speedia handles ,if i was doing it now i'd go for a pair of replacement handles from the makers of the kingpin ,a tad expensive perhaps ,but pretty. at the time the speedia handles was all i had to hand .
