gutted!!
Been out today in glorious sunshine on the Tees. Had a few grayling here and there and and an out of season trout or two to trotted maggots.
Nothing big untill the float slowly slid under just like dragging the bottom. I struck just in case and was not supprised to be attatched to mother earth. As I was pulling for the break (2.5lbs bottom) mother earth slowly moved upstream. A branch, thought I, and applied steady pressure. The branch turned into a fish! The fish moved heavily around the swim with that slow, heavy nodding sensation that big things have. Big chub? Small barbel?
After what seemed like ages (doesn't it always?) the awful truth surfaced - the tail of a large grayling I had foul-hooked in the anal fin. It was duly netted. A fish a near two pounds as makes no diference and what would have easily been my personal best grayling were it hooked fairly.
Gutted...
