Default First ever chub!

Happily managed to bag my first ever chub on the fly last night. In fact, my first ever chub altogether! Very difficult roll-casting with a *4 from a steep and overgrown bank into the shelter of a broken willow near the far bank of a local river. They enjoyed s14 gold-head PTN and didn’t seem at all spooky, although one that I only managed to ***** bolted like a gunshot. Apologies for the photo quality but I was shaking, especially after the battle with the first one which was about 4.5” across the shoulders. It didn’t half want to get under the tree and I was on 4lb tippet! Great fun.

Cheers. With apologies, a river near Sheffield is all i can say! A local was telling me how much pressure the stretch was getting after someone posted a 10lb plus barbel from it in angling times last season and it really is a very small water. I was tipped by a mate who fishes it regularly (coarse) and who took a 10lb 2oz pike from the same peg on tuesday night, possibly the culprit for the damage to the second fish although there was a cormorant knocking about when i fished there too.

This thread should be in the 'fly fishing for other species' forum by the way, sorry

Had my first a couple of years ago trotting for grayling on the Derwent near Cromford, the second came from the Border Esk - Caul Pool whilst worming for salmon....both were a welcome surprise!

I have had chub that showed signs of damage from waters with no pike...

When they head for the snags they give it 110%
