Default Pike fishing in Buckinghamshire

I would be grateful for any information about where I can go Pike spinning in Buckinghamshire on a day ticket. Not into this myself but my son is home on a few days break and is keen to go within the next day or so. All info. gratefully received. Thanks, Bucksfish.

You can try either:-

Startops Reservoir
Marsworth Reservoir
Wilstone reservoir

The price is £6.00 (one rod) £10.00 (two rods) dawn until dusk per day available from the baliff on the bank.

i have fly fished the reservoirs for pike and had pike upto 10lbs.

Let me know if you require anymore information.

Kind Regards

Hi Bamboo Flyfisher, many thanks for this. It brought back some wonderful memories - allow me to explain. Bernard Double used to be the Water Bailiff and Gamekeeper at Tring Res's and, 20 + years ago, it was he who taught my then 12 year old daughter to fly fish on the little feeder stream that runs alongside the trout lake. While sitting waiting while she had her Saturday afternoon lessons I then became interested and took up the sport myself. Since then it has become an enduring passion for me though, sadly, not for my daughter. Marriage, motherhood and work have all contrived to take too much of her time.
My son is very 'pike' orientated hence my request for information. I think we are going tomorrow. Again many thanks. Bucksfish.

No problem. I'm glad I could help.

I have fished the tring reservoirs since I was a young boy. Fished mainly with lure and jerk baits. There are some cracking perch to be had aswell.

Hope you have a good day tomorrow.

I've had pike from Tring Res's too, Marsworth is the easiest but have had low twenties from Wilstone off the pier. In the winter you can see the pike in the margins, will try them on the fly this year if I get chance as banks are high but free of any obstructions. You do need a ladder or some help to land fish in Wilstone though.

Hi Benlikestofish, thanks for this - Marsworth it is then!
BTW - I think we may have a mutual friend - Trouthunter - are you a 'Corrib' fisher yourself? Bucksfish.

Hi, An update on 'Piking' at Marsworth today. Lovely day, warm and sunny. Reservoir paths almost shoulder to shoulder with walkers and twitchers. Good to see so many people enjoying the country air and not robbing and looting in the towns. Son fished, spinning lures for a couple of hours to no avail. To be fair the weather was pretty much against to start but a good outing in a new place. Thanks to all for information. Bucksfish.

All this talk about tring stirs the memories, I had a half rod on the stream by the tring ford reservoir for a few years up until Bernard retired, what a lovely man and knolegable in all matters shooting and fishing. I miss it now, my trout stream fishing being limmited to the odd invite to fish the river Wye on the west wycombe estate . Although next season I hope to book some days on the Test and carriers, in Hampshire.

I was based at the RAF Halton camp some years ago and fished the tring reservoirs extensively for 5 seasons, specifically targetting Wilstone and Startops. My targets were pike and perch on lures and flies and my fishing buddy and I did really well, taking pike up to 26lb and perch to 3.5 lb. Lures and flies were really consitent catchers until the reservoirs opened all year then results started to fall off dramatically (topic for another thread probably). Anyway, Bernard Double got to know us quite well due to our success and invited us to fish Little tring, the trout water during the winter for the pike that lived there on condition that any we only used lures (I`m not a bait fisherman anyway), left the trout alone (easier said than done when the trout were throwing themselves at our lures) and any pike caught would be transferred into Startops, a few meters away across the road. So for 2 winters we had exclusive boat access to that water and took many many pike to 22lb. Bernard is a real gentleman and his army stories are interesting too, how about parachuting into Malayan jungle with a tracker dog strapped across your chest for starters.
For the OP as well, the river ouse by buckingham is (was?) a brilliant lure water for pike, perch and chub, really good on the fly too (otters there as well). Hopefully next year there will be a posting back to Halton where I fully intend to renew my aquaintance with these waters.
ATB
Andy.
