Default braided line

may i suggest that all anglers give thought to terminal tackle, when using braided main line. it is very unforgiving, with virtually no stretch ,if used as a hooklink alongside mainline.there is the possibility of the fish rolling on the braid and cutting itself. i have seen terrible examples of this. even worse if the fish becomes snagged its a death rig. example hold a length of 10 pound braid in either hand and try to break it. (nuff said). as i have already advocated a nylon leader of weaker breaking strain attatched to the braid will prevent this occuring. it also aids presentation ,and the stretch prevents bouncing during the fight and poss hook pulls. please remember we are pursuing wild creatures. it is our obligation to respect and care for them.

I've used braid in all disciplines for years. You should never use it straight through; always with mono leaders.
Good point for new exponents though.

A mono leader also provides a degree of shock absorbtion as well

Just dont try braid with very short hook lengths- I had a succession of lost chub - no big pull- just striking into thin air to find leader gone . But brilliant for barbel with long hook length and ditto for spinning.

I use to use braid for all my feeder fishing but always with about 10-12ft of mono as a shock leader and then a low BS hook link. There really is no need to strike with braid, just lift into the bite and you're away.
