Default Tenching

I have finally found my perfect tench lake- hidden away down a track miles from anywhere and fishable for a fiver to the farm. 4 acres ,wooded banks and lots of features. I had a few sessions last year but think I cracked it yesterday morning- arrived at 6-30, groundbait in and tench bubbles started to appear. Fishing a 15' Harrison GTi with an antenna float(probably called something sexier now ?) I caught a dozen tench- including a personal best of 5-8. I know they dont weigh them until they are 8lb ish in Southern gravel pits but as I rarely have fished for these lovely fish - Yorkshire is more chub, barbel and trout territory -I am 'over the moon'. And crikey but they pull!

grayson, congrats, on your pb. after 40 years i still get the shakes when those bubbles appear around the float. dont give a thought to what us southern geezers catch, you can only catch whats in the water, who knows your tench may be a record for the pond. good tenching, steve.

Killer Tench baits on my local are small cooked mussels, and sections of king prawns, dipped in van den eyde predator plus.

Sounds a great spot!

Ringers expanders in strawberry jelly - always tops for me.

My club lake back in England is a stunning old estate water, early mornings when the mist is hovering over the water, just off the edge of the lillies is as good as it gets, for me it's everything that is great about fishing.

Well done on the PB tench Mike, I haven't fished for them for many years now, but did quite a bit of it when I was younger and in Lancs.
There is without doubt a special feeling setting up your tackle at the crack of dawn with mist coming off, and then seeing your float disappear for the first fish of the day.
A lovely peaceful way of catching the green ones.

Nice one you lucky fella .

I have no interest what so ever in catching any fish species by any method other than fly these days except one , Float Fishing for Tench . I have not done so for many years and keep telling myself I must get out and give it a go some summers mornings as there are 100s of waters within 35 miles of me that are stuffed with them but I keep getting side tracked

Would be nice to see a few pics of the lake ( unless it gives away where it is ) and a few fish pics as well

Great stuff grayson! Well done on your find and even more well done on your success. They are a super, super fish to go for and still reward methods that today might be considered old fashioned. Old fashioned maybe but what wonderful pleasures can be derived from watching the float lifting and then sliding away...

Sorry but have given up on pictures- hundreds of photos I never look at at home. A few lines in my fishing diary and that is it.But if you have read BB I felt like I was experiencing the sort of day he enjoyed many times at forgotten ponds in Northamptonshire- he wrote far better pictures than any photo.
