Cool Dace & river roach photographs

I have tried to take photographs of Dace I have caught on the Ribble but I can't seem to get the level of detail needed to do them justice. Having seen some of the quality of photography on here I would love to see photo's of some big dace or river Roach.

Above the golden gravel,

I caught some superb river roach (1lb+) on the fly from the Cumbrian River Derwent (between Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake) in the summer. My mate took some pics, if I can tack them down I'll post them. They were shoaled up for spawning I think - never have I seen so many big roach in one place before, it was increadible. They are virtually never fished for either.

As for digi cameras, I've had a few over the years (budget-mid price range) and know by now what I want. My current one is a Kodak easyshare C763 and is superb for the money (about £80 from pc world and elswhere

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/403718

Its small and compact, good resolution (7mega pixel, although I usually have it set on 5), good screen on the back, 3x optical zoom (optical is what matters - digital zoom is just an elargement of the picture at a lower resolution), also a Lithium Ion rechargable battery ("Li-on") which lasts much much longer than your normal AA type (Li-on batteries are same as you have in mobile phones). Also very easy to use and excellent colour balance. Obviously you can spend loads more if you want, but I don't think you'll beat that for the price.

Thumbs up Mega pix

Just been out today and picked a camera up, I can't have it until Christmas though .Seems like I got a good deal although some one will find it cheaper no doubt . Its got 4x optical zoom 7x digital and 9 mil pix so even I with my inept photo taking ability should stand a chance . It's this site that as inspired me and this camera will hopefully do as a start point while I learn

p.s. I had to do something Phil after our day was spoiled and put on hold it would have been a lot cheaper fishing

Use the optical zoom but make sure you keep the camera still. Ignore the digital zoom because all you will do is expand the picture and reduce the resolution - exactly what you do on the pc but with less precision.

I used to be a fairly serious photographer. The best lesson I ever learned was when I realised that the viewfinder is not a gun sight. It is a picture frame. So by looking all round the scene and positioning me and my camera as if arranging a picture frame around the things I wanted in the picture, all the photographs suddenly became a lot better. You say your ability is inept. I bet you can fix it in 10 seconds by this change from gun sight to picture frame.

You are going to have a great time...
