Default Another Treat from Duncan

He took me to another small lake on Saturday, at a couple of hours notice. I need to take my bigger camera with its longer lens next time because the pocket camera couldn't get me close enough for his customary rod bending action.

Here's the best I could do, zoomed and cropped in Photoshop to get a little closer.

Treated again today! Lots of lovely roach and rudd to bread. Duncan used all sorts of weird stuff with halibut oil in them. He had the bigger fish but I had my chance (and muffed it). Here you can see his Allcocks Wizard in action.

I used an old Hardy Richard Walker Avon Pallakona. It is amusing to see that the handwriter added the information 1lb B.S., which should of course read 1lb T.C. Never mind it's a fine rod. Rain was forecast for four pm and unfortunately it was accurate. I was too slow to prevent everything getting a soaking. Lots of drying and careful hanging up when I got home. It is good to fish in the ways I used to when I started at my Grandad's side.

Thank you again Duncan it was delightful!

I get what you say about fishing like we used to. Today fishing is safe and comfortable in a bankside bivvy, flat out on a super spring bed, watching tele, while I wait for an alarm to sound, so I can jump into the Zodiac to 'row it down'. I enjoyed it no less and remember the times much more when bankside equipment provided almost no comfort nor any real shelter from the wind and rain and a dinner was a packet of custard creams.

All this; it was once fields, I remember it.

Nice photo's and report Richard.

I had a trip down the lower Derwent on Sunday night with my "John Neville Special" quiver rod and trusty old Mitchell 300. I knew the forecast was for intermittent showers so I decided to leave the brolly in the back of the Landie. First mistake of the night.

Second mistake of the night was not paying attention while playing the one and only decent fish of the night which resulted in the hook slipping from the biggest Chub i've clasped eyes on.
