Default june the 16th

been looking forward to june 16th for about 2 months now to cast a bait in my local river(the tees), been down at 6am the last 2 seasons in a row and never saw another soul all day!
i caught my pb perch of 2.5lb had chub up to 4lb all on my knackered old ryobi close faced reel lasy season down there.
is it just me or is no-one interested in the river seasons no more with so much commercial mud pools rammed with t**ts on boxes 'baggin' mutated carp all year round. please tell me theres more to fishing than this andy

Sad, but true. Only the more popular stretches get at all crowded on opening day and if the fishing's hard by the third day even these will be deserted.

I can't make the 16th this year so my opening day will be the glorious 17th!

I was right there with you on your post until you generally described people that sit on seat boxes , and use commercial fisheries as t***s.

Some of these t***s can pull 200lb of fish out in 5 hrs, far in excess of what you would do if dropped into a match.

Live and let fish, dude!

yeah fair enough, been there and done that, went to white acres a few times and by the end of the week i was dissapionted if i didnt catch a 'ton' every day. just seems people are missing the point. the rivers are a great source of fishing and people are more happy to sit on a commercial water than take a chance of going down the local river. ok theres many times i've caught bot all but still gone home happy just to be in the middle of nowhere up to my waist in water. cant say the same if id paid a tenner to fish a commercial and another tenner on pellets. each to their own but i know where i'll be next week!

Yep, and I know where I'll be on the 16th too. Like you, up to my waist somewhere on the Tees. It's my birthday too so a double cause for a couple of beers afterwards!!!

Just had the old BMW R80/7 out for a good old thrash this afternoon and it seemed to want to take me to a certain bridge over the Tees. I just happened to find three slices of bread under it's seat (who put them there?) so I spent a happy fifteen minutes feeding the chub and looking forward to next week.

Starting on the tidal Trent myself then the Derwent on friday.
Commercials aren't really my scene but can appreciate the skill of those catching the big weights each week (the likes of alan scotthorne and tom pickering can catch anywhere) it's the noddies who think that catching 20 to 50lb from a carp puddle makes them a better angler than someone catching 10lb from a river or 4lb from a canal that gets to me, still each to their own.
