I'm gonna be spending a good 6 months or maybe longer in Winnipeg, Canada from the end of July onwards and although i'll be taking my fly rod with me, i see that there is good carp and catfish fishing there. Now, i have a fair bit of experience with carp but know NOTHING about going after catfish but fancy trying to chase some down while i'm there.

Can anyone give me any idea of what sort of set up and approach would be best to try? Obviously, i'll be hitting up the local tackle stores when i get there but if i can get there with some sort of idea of what i'm up against, it would be great. Any bits of advice/knowledge would be awesome!!
