Default Living the boy hood dream

As you drive into my estate and only a few hundred yards from my home, there is a 2 acre ornamental lake where parents bring their children to feed the ducks and geese.

It's only a few years old, being a new build estate but passing it everyday wondered if it held a population of coarse fish yet.

Well, I had 1.5 hours to kill yesterday, so headed up the road with a 4m telescopic pole fitted with #4 elastic, a 2lb BS pole rig with a barbless #18, a disgorger and a box of maggots left over from the weekend that were still fresh and lively.

I fed in a few maggots here and there over a couple of minutes whilst putting my rig together then dropped my float in. For the next hour I proceded to bang out beautiful looking Rudd, fish on every cast, some were real crackers between 6oz and 8oz.

Within a few minutes I had loads of school children and parents round me watching and asking loads of questions, wanting to know where to get a pole/whip, how to put a rig on, what species of fish, where to get maggots, how to put them on, how to get started, etc etc etc.

Hopefully that spare 1.5 hours will change some peoples lives, keep some kids off the street and reduce some unecessary vandalism.

Pip pip!

The Pirate.

Every muddy pond I see I wonder the same.............I do little else but specimen hunt these days, yet once in a while the lure of the bent pin gets me. Off I go, right back to my roots, and knock out a load of gudgeon or small roach from t'cut..............happy days.............birdsnest

Good stuff Stewart, I reckon alot of us started to fish at the local pond. Do you reckon the fish had been stocked or eggs transferred in by birds?

next time you pass a catchment pond(lagoon) for the motorways etc or on an ordinary road where you can stop ,go and have a look you may well be surprised ,there's one near me which has fish in it and 100% guarantee no one has stocked it
