Default Strike indicators

I have heard that some coarse fishers suspend their baits under nasty little float things and trot them down to the waiting fish ! I think this is despicable practice, they should be horsewhipped....oh, err, sorry, wrong section...

I was being ironic, lads !

Take a look at some of the excess heat being generated about strike indicators in the "General Fly Fishing" section. You really couldn't make some of it up.

I am amused by the idea that accusing someone of "float fishing" is pejorative in the first place, and that sticking a bit of foam or putty on the leader comes anywhere near the effectiveness that a real float fishing setup is capable of. Can you imagine the effect of a decent match angler tackling Farmoor with three buzzers on a sliding waggler setup?

It's quite an amusing and baffling read. Best to stay well away from the "discussion".

At the moment it's 18 pages of wind-up merchants and deep hooked bait takers !!!

Is there no one that is prepared to start a thread that can objectively discuss the fishing merits of different styles of indicator fishing?
