Default Boxing Day Grayling

Hope this is right sub forum but I think trotting for grayling in the snow merits 'classic'. 4 hours on the Rye today- running clear and ice free - but minus 4.5C on arrival and a balmy minus 3.5C when I left. I trotted redworm with a centrepin(Adcocks Stanton) and a 25 year old Shakespeare carbon 12' float rod.I caught grayling of 1-4, 1-5 1-6 and 1-12; lost 2 of similar size and a little one of 6-8oz. Wonderful antidote to Christmas- saw a buzzard , dipper and kingfisher- and the fish all pulled like donkeys. Dreadful icing up problems with rod rings- ended up solid every other cast- any cure ? Reel froze solid at one point too. Managed to wade over the top of my Aigle neoprene wellies but feet stayed warm all day. Boxing Day is always good to me - I caught my biggest chiub 4 years ago to the day and have rarely had a bad day- but today was one of the best...

Lucky man. I am planning a trip to the Dove or the Rye in the next day or two.. I love an occasional trip with the float rod to maybe even down my local beck. When the ice has gone..

Well done that is a great catch and a delightful way to fish for the grayling at this time of year. I hope to get onto the Dove or Derwent sometime this week myself.

Grayson........ glycerine helps albeit you may have to repeatedly "coat" the rings eyes throughout the day , get a bottle from your local chemists, and the easiest way i found of doing it was to get an old nail varnish bottle with a brush in the lid, clean it out thoroughly with nail varnish remover, the pour in your glycerine and then just wipe the eyes with the brush ,small enough to go in any pocket

Great day that John. I'm envious, I've just crawled out of bed having been there since christmas eve with a stinking cold which needs to clear up so that i can go on the Test on Thursday! Still, it saved me from over exposure to mother in law.....every cloud...

Regards
Peter
