they're nice enough ,but that dammed line guard is a nuisance ,it gets in the way of wally casting and makes batting the drum awkward .save yourself a few dollers and buy a sheffield

this is what i do to kennet line guards

Modification To The 0kuma " Kennet " Line Guard To Facilitate Wallis Casting - Centre-pin surgery - Centre-pin Information - CENTRE-PINS - Message Board

mind you ,if i had too do it again ,i'd still cut it off ,but kept a different section ,the second section from the right .and then fed the line through it every time .but then again i doubt i'd pay the extra over the cost of a sheffield ,for basically the same reel with added ironmongary .it'd be better too get a reel and add a line guard .

if your that desperate for one bruce mate as its you ,i'd flog you mine for a ton ,with or without the shortened line guard (i've a dremmel & not affraid too use it )

thats a good choice ,but i could raise you with one of these , JW heritage that has a usable & removeable line guard ,easy too cast with the line guard fitted .

the rolling pins are ok ,but expensive for what they are .

Aren't the rolling pins side-casters? I thought that was prone to putting twist in the line, after a while anyway, unless you reverse the spool every so often

they're designed too be used with braid ,and yes mono does get line twist when use in the forwards position ( braid doesn't) .the spools drum isn't really designed for trotting as its tailored towards forwards casting . as its more of a ledgering reel or more precisely chucking out a critically balanced hook / rig that just about holds bottom .that rolls /bounces across the bottom at the speed of the bottom currant . And for what it was designed for it is supreame ,but every other task is a compromise .

the line twist ,isn't too much of a worry though as lot will depend on the line used etc but people do use them like conventional centrepins for float fishing etc ,but theres better reels suited too these rolls and cheaper .

thats why i recommended the heritage ,a good float fishing and barbel reel you can remove its line guard if not needed.and its comes in british fishing green
