For the few times I trot, I use an Okuma Sheffield, lovely solid reel, but I must admit those Zen ones are very impressive.

Is the actual spool made from metal or plastic Steve. ?

Alloy according to this:
Zen Master Centre Pin Alloy Float Trotting Reel - £29.99. The video is a bit pointless, ie giving it a good whack and watching it spin for ages doesn't prove that much, its start-up inertia that is more important, although there looks be a half decent bearing in there to be fair. What would worry me more is that massive clunky wing nut on the back and an open back - birdsnests here we come!

i beleave its Magnesium Alloy spool and alloy/nylon spine (it doesn't have a full backplate but a armature instead) and suprisingly no bearings (un like the dam robo reel ,a fore bare of these) just a tube bushing hub arrangement ,there is a Mk11 version which has a couple of improved parts like the knobbs are smaller (ohh errr ) ,being very light and large dia spool ,makes for a good reel in low flow rivers .

No bearing? hadn't realised that, but now you mention it, it doesn't actually spin all that long considering the almighty clout he gives it in the video! That Okuma you swapped me and my old Leeds would spin longer. Still haven't actually used the Okuma yet, hopefully this winter for a bit of grayling and chub trotting.

the okuma's are leagues ahead of those zen masters .

i havent even started on that stanton yet (looking too fit a caliper style ratchet then get it adonised electric blue ) been busy fidling with a merlin (that i got with that okuma pro you now have ) and tarting up my mitchell 410's " green 410 " and a " frankenstien 410 " based on this origanal green mitchell but done on a budget with ready available paints etc .
