Question Any Help on marginal reeds

Hi All, I fish Ellerdine Lakes in Shropshire, where there are a lot of marginal reeds. Though these are around three feet high, when I lift off to re-cast, I sometimes catch these.

I always roll cast initailly to get the line moving, but when I lift off, I normally catch the top dropper. What am I doing that's wrong and how can I correct this?

Best Regards

Where is the line when you lift off?

If you roll cast into an overhead cast and you are aiming in front of you, then you will catch the reeds if they are in line with your roll cast position, if not then you have have issues regarding your roll cast.

A very ambiguous answer to an ambiguous question I'm afraid

Default Line position

Hi Chris, I know in describing my line position, that it can be vague at best. As I lift on the roll my line is slightly off centre to the right. Would this make a difference?

Regards

Stuart

Stuart,

That sounds ideal, if the reeds are sticking out of the water then your cast is falling low to the water, you will need to roll cast into an overhead cast, a higher Back cast and your forward cast needs to be head height and allow the loop to unroll before lowering the rod

Take the top dropper off................not a joke. Do you really need to fish a team at Ellerdine ? I haven't. Try it with a single fly, lots less to snag up........................birdsnest
