Default Good loop formation contributors

Good loop formation depends on-

The caster
The rod
The line

What % contribution would you say each factor provides?

Default loop

Its the stop of the rod that forms the loop, where and when you stop it, as the members say below its the caster that stops the rod

Default Loop contributors

I would agree that the caster is by far the most important.
I do find that the rod makes quite a difference though. Some rods always seem to produce a tight loop whilst others are a bit hit and miss. Predictability can vary quite a lot.
Replies suggest that lines hardly make a contribution. Does this suggest that very expensive lines only have the benefit of finish?
Does the line effect whether there are waves in the line?
I would valve further views in respect to the above.
Regards
Rusty

I'm with Darren.

Good Loop is a result of a Straight Line Path of the rod tip and a crisp stop.

If you can do the above you will have tight loops, although, they are not always a good thing.

waves or ripples in the bottom leg of the loop are caused by the rod tip bouncing after the forward stop and has nothing to do with the line.Apparently relaxing the hand immeadiately after making the stop wil help to cure this(this advice comes from Mr Paul Arden via Sexyloops website so I wouldnt argue with it.
cheers
Steve.

No its not, try doing a crisp stop with a really soft rod, your loop will morph out of all recognition.

Rookstorm got ot right IMO, how and where you stop the rod which depends on a multitude of things.

I also think the line and rod has a significantly higher % to play in the loop formation.

Take caster x for example, say Darren who can chuck a line.

Give him (i am exaggerating to demonstrate a point):-

a) A broom stick handle and a bit of string, all strung up like a fly rod

b) A XP and a Mastery MED.

The caster remains the same, which set up creates the best loops?
