You have to be a superb caster to cast a standard WF with anything more than 10' of overhang but some lines hinge more than others, I suspect the thickness of the running line has a lot to do with it.

Thats is correct you can cast just as far or more distance with a standard DT line.
I could never cast well with a long belly fly line but casting a DT 5
Shooting the line into the back and forward casts and holding the backing knot on the final back cast was for me a more productive method. If the rod is powerfull like a TCR it will hold 90 feet on the back cast no problem.
On the forward cast a long haul and the line becomes a very long shooting head.
