Default World trout distance records and Competitions

I'm seriously thinking about entering the world distance trout rod fly casting competitions next year..know nothing about them.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where they're held in the U.K. If there's one or more competitions held each year, and information on rules and regulations etc.
Sorry, I know nothing about any of the aforementioned, but wish to give it a bash if I can train-up properly, and sort my tackle out to suit etc.
Anyone help out with info on this??????????

You could come along to some BFCC meetings (next one is in Wrexham, N.Wales and the one after that is at Sportfish Reading). Friendly competition and you'll get to see how you compare to some pretty decent casters before heading for the worlds.

I'll take a look at that site later today;thanks for that. Are the competitors using specialist purpose built rods, and are there set parameters for the head and running line?

The main competitions at the BFCC are for floating 5 and 7 lines. You can use any unmodified full length line, i.e. you can choose whether to throw a short or long head WF or even a DT. The SA MED and Barrio Outcast are probably the ones you will see the winners using though. Rods tend to be more varied although the Sage TCR seems to dominate the #5 category. All the rules are on the BFCC site - note the worlds may well have a different set.

Thank you James, it looks like I have a bit of research to do prior to flexing my muscles. I may even knock on the door of a few rod manufactures for sponsorship too.

If you are serious about distance buy yourself a tape measure. You need to be in the 120' range for a five weight, 130' with a seven (standard off the shelf nine footer's and production lines) you need to be somewhere in the 180' or better and 200 plus with the T38 and T120 respectively. Both the latter are pure tournament gear.

Come to a BFCC meeting and see how you compare.

TCR's are not in production but you can stll get them second hand. TCX is good. Dan Craft make good blanks for distance. Echo UD or the new upraded model are good, and cheap.

Seven weights; a bloke XL50 is a good place to start.

The BFCC can sell you a T38 blank and the line.

T120 might be a problem.

If I were you Paul I'd stay well away from this crew - I can feel the Tennis Elbows coming on from here !

Might stop you winning on the 20th !

Best wishes

Steve P
PS I have Mike Weddell's Old Distance and Accuracy rod here and the reel and the line and even I once hit 64 metres with them - anybody interested in making a serious offer for a real man's outfit ? I ain't going to use them again - far too old !!

Just been on the BFCC website; and the rules for a #7 weight state:
#7 Distance – Any ‘caopa’ fly fishing rod up to 9’6” (2.9m), marked #7. Any ‘caopa’ line DT or WF#7F.

Question, is the Bloke XL50 9'6" #7/8 okay to use in the #7 weight distance event?
