Another enjoyable morning with Andrew and St7. Weather was cold but we managed to miss the snow. It was snowing heavy by the time I got back home.

Andrew thanks for letting me try your Oddesy rod. I have been out to the boat yard in Preston and picked one up for myself and my son.

Looking forward to next week.

Chris

Great success with the rods Chris. Hope you got a good price for two

Wondering about topics for next Saturday. Possibles:
  • Grip ... different ways to hold the rod
  • Loop shapes ... when we might want to cast more open loops and how to do it
  • Force ... how much force do we need to apply to cast a given length of line
  • more shooting line and hauling

Let me know what you think, Andrew

Only just come across this chaps. Your obviously all bonkers.

I don't do grass casting any more and I shoot on Saturday mornings but well done you lot.
If you ever decide to practice on water I'll try give it a go.

Andrew

The tackle shop did knock off a couple of pound for buying two rods. I didn't really expect more than this given that the rods were a good price anyway.

I am happy to cover any of those areas you have proposed. After reflecting on last Saturday my main focus will be to try and stop my back and front cast a little bit higher. In particular I want to make sure that I stop myself from opening up my loop on the final forward cast.

I find that I am learning at least 2 or 3 key things each week which helpS me to progress further. Changing the angle of the cast and imagining throwing the line into a trash can was great advice for deaking with a breeze and still achieving good turnover.

Your time and advice is very much appreciated.

See you Saturday.

Chris

Water's a bit hard at the moment!

Grass casting practice is better than no casting practice, but "on water" practice invaluable

Another fun and informative casting session with Andrew and the guys today. We had a look at various grips and how they can help you to develop an effective cast. I tried a style that felt a bit alien to me but it did seem to improve my casting so I may continue to give it a try.

Andrew - having had some success today I google casting grips and found this interesting article about how changing your grip can help to solve some persistent casting problems. I definitely recognise some of the casting faults described in the article and the solution seems similar to what we tried today.

The Three-Point Grip | A problem-solving grip that can make you a better caster.| 1

Anyway plenty for me to think about.

See you next week.
