Default Reel weight

It seems to me that casting can be significantly affected by the weight of the reel used with a particular rod, affecting the balance of the outfit and casting efficiency.

Yes, I know that reels are rated for the line (as is the rod) but to me that appears to be more about line capacity, rather than balancing a particular reel to a particular rod.

ie reels rated for a specific line rate can vary in weight themselves, and no account taken of the length of the rod.

I wonder if it would be useful if particular rods were to be marked with the ideal weight of the reel they are best used with, and reels with their net weight? (And yes the amount of backing, actual weight of the line etc would also vary).

Or am I missing something?

In the absence of that, where is the ideal balance point of a full outfit, ie reel loaded with line attached, but not yet threaded through the rings?

And if the reel is too light/heavy, how best to adjust the outfit's centre of gravity fore or aft?

You're clearly missing the Search feature of the Forum as this 'myth' has been done to death many, many, many times.

Can't argue with that.

My deepest apologies

Rod / reel weight balance? Seems to answer the question

Now, given that the lightest of reels has the least,

why do they cost the most?

Lots of holes surrounded by aerospace quality alloys ... technically very challenging!
