Default How much extra distance on average does a 'long distance line' give you?

Hi everyone,
Just wondering how much extra distance would you say a line specifically designed for long distance casting give you?

I appreciate there are a lot of factors and I suppose this question goes out to the experienced comp casters but how much further do you think you can cast with a line such as a SA MED compared to an average fishing line? (if you get my meaning) such as a Cortland 444 for example.

I am only a sort of beginner but enjoy casting as far as I can for fun and am unwilling to spend the money on a SA MED just yet as I am wrecking lines in a few weeks. So I'm curious as I am trying to gauge my progress as always .

Lines like the SA MED have extra long bellies and are designed so that a good caster can carry 20+ yards and then shoot the rest - try that with a short belly line like the Snowbee XS and it collapses.

However :

- if you cannot keep 20yds aerialised, these lines are not for you (yet)
- if you are fishing with trees or steep banks behind you, it will only make life harder

These lines will only help the best casters. Spend the 50 quid on a couple of lessons, which will be of far more benefit to 90% of anglers.

thanks
yeah I deffo wouldnt buy one yet (Im too tight for that lol). I havent got a clue how much I can aeralize - I cant tell.

I guess (and it is a guess) I can aeralize just over half of what I can cast which is around or just over 100ft on a fairly regular basis.

Just wondering what extra difference a distance line gives a comp caster roughly?

None.

These lines are long bellied lines designed to allow anglers who can already cast a long line to 'carry' additional line prior to shooting the running line.

Thanks. Please dont think I'm being flippant (cause I'm not )but why dont comp casters generally use 'normal' lines then?

Ok, I think while writing this I have got what you mean??

I will rephrase the question and I suppose it only applies to comp casters.

For say a 7 weight how much would you say you could cast with an average fishing line and how far could you cast with a line such as a SA MED (or the like) with the same rod?

Tencher, if you really are that interested, try a site called sexy loops these boys can carry 80 or90 ft of line.

As Welshfly says, these lines are good if you can carry 80 plus feet of line. The majority of anglers, looking to maximise their casting range would be better served using a line with a shorter head, for example the Snowbee XS, developing the ability to generate line speed and shoot running line.

the extra length of head and to a degree the rear taper helps keep the aerialised line stable, letting you hold more in the air before it begins to become unwieldly and collapse, now that i look this has already been said, duh.

not much fishing is done 100' away though.

Thanks everyone - measured today and can hold just over 60ft of line in air but loops are very big at that carry.
