Default Casting not far enough....

hi guys,

i hve a problem with casting,i think i that i am not casting far enough, i have a 10ft #7 Original Enigma E-MG with a GX500 6/7/8 reel and i was just wondering how far should i be casting? I know that its all to do with technique but are there any other factors? like maybe the line is bad? I am using a floating line that i bought off of Ebay i think it was a flextec aeroloop #7, right now i am casting about 15ft to 20ft. Wat i am wondering is that is it my technique or is it the line? and how far should i be casting with a 10ft rod? Thanks for reading

Sam

Sam,You 'need' 30' of line out the rod tip to start loading the rod. With 15'-20' the rod is not even starting to work.these should be the distances you are false casting to get to the starting point.
If you are using a DT or WF line the above still applies.Without seeing what you are doing it's hard to give advice but the line matches the rod.you should be casting further.

Sam, how are you learning to cast? Are you using books, dvd/utube etc, lessons?

i got a couple of lessons off Tom from ballyhass lakes, and looked at some vids from youtube, the lessons were fine, and he said i had the basics learnt but i guess i aint good enough, just watching people on utube casting like 35feet plus makes me wanna cast like that lol
do u think that its the rod or the line?

No I think you are doing something wrong.are you sure the line is on the right way round if it's a WF,and you'r not trying to cast the running line.

This is just my opinion, but I found overlining really helped me get the Feel for what us going on with the rod.

For the cost of it I would get a couple of mill ends at 4 quid a pop. If you are genuinely struggling to get past 20 ft I would get a 9 and 8 weight Wf lines and work back down to your #7 line.

Although I know nothing about your rod, overlining by 2 helped me learn on a cheap shaky.

That's just my 2p !

If Tom knows what he is doing, you should be casting more than 15-20 feet after 2 lessons, especially if he says that you have the basics. Are you absolutely sure - have you actually measured the distance. You don't mean yards instead of feet do you
