Default The BFCC goes to Glasgow

I know this is a bit early, we have Eyebrook in between, but there are some spaces available. On Sun 11 Sept 2011 the BFCC in association with the Glasgow Casting Club will be at the Lochinch Police Club, Pollock Country Park Glasgow G41 4SN

This is a prime opportunty for those of you further north than the Watford Gap to come and have a go. You will need to let Mike Marshall know, his email address is at BFCC - Home Of Uk Fly Casting.

Mike

There will be at least 12-15 people from Alberto and I am hoping to catch up with the illustrious "zoomer" whom might be in disguise.

I hope that Brian McGlashan will be bringing at least 5-6 people so with the BFCC "possee" along with a few other there will be a full contingency and there will a good day.

So the question is James is your shoulder up to dealing with the "thick air" at Glasgow?

I feel that you may be an overall winner in the shoot-outs, so no pressure on you.

Knowing the friendliness of the Scottish boys it really is a day not to be missed.

We were talking about this at the Glasgow casting club tonight. We are a bit unsure of what the format is to be.

Few of us have specialist distance casting tackle. I'm fairly sure of that - I did have a TCR 5 but it's gone to the great rod graveyard. I'm also fairly sure there are stringent tackle rules for example I don't think I could turn up with my 10ft 7 weight and have a throw - or maybe I could?

Hope this helps.

Bring your kit so some of our guys can show you what is possible, but be warned that it may get broken.

Kind regards

If anyone doesn't have appropriate tackle don't worry there's always plenty of equipment on hand to borrow. It is written in the rules that you're not allowed to beat me with my own rod though .

Roger - I haven't started working on my excuses yet!

Thanks for that. We were casting between 110-120 feet yesterday with a 10 ft 7 weight rod with a bog standard cheapo fly line with a 42ft head. Is that "caopa"? I can't find a definition.

These rod lengths are a bit restrictive aren't they - is there a reason for restricting to these short rods? Genuine question - I'm not nit picking. Is it that say an 11 ft 5 weight would give some advantage over a 9ft 5weight?

Regards
Malcolm

Commercially Available or Previously Available - Bog Standard is about right!

I'm not sure where the length rules came from, however I personally think 9ft is about the optimum for distance. So much so I think I'd have a distinct advantage over someone wielding an 11 footer.

110 - 120ft with a short head #7 line is pretty good going - you probably don't need to practice that anymore, no - I insist

Anyone up for an off-the-shoulder comp?

Incidentally - which section did you break on your TCR? There might be a market for section 2 (handle being 1) if you're not getting it fixed.

As field master for the BFCC you all have to do what I tell you. Simples.

The general format is pretty relaxed but will depend on how many turn up.

First up is a greeting and demo, usually by our esteemed leader Mike Marshall, then an 'elf and safety briefing then I will give a quick run down on the competition aspect.

Casters will draw a number and that will be the casting order for the day.

We will run two or three lanes depending on space. Lane one is five weight, lane two is seven weight, lane three is nine weight.

Caster #1 will cast the five then move to the seven and then the nine. As caster #1 moves to the seven caster #2 starts his five. Then #1 moves to the nine, #2 moves to the seven and #3 starts his five, and so on until everyone has cast.

The T38 and T120 will be cast afterwards because they have different time limits to the full line events.

If the GAC can provide some targets (hoops will do) we will also have an accuracy contest.

While all this is going on Mike and (hopefully) others will be giving any instruction needed.

Again, depending on space, there will be a seperate casting lane where you can 'Go for Gold', our distance badge scheme.

There are two levels of competition (although we all cast together) The Elite and the B100. The B100 is for those of you that have not cast 100' in competition (or ever, come to that) and the winner is the person with the highest combined distance in the five and seven events.

It's a lot less complicated (and much more fun) than it sounds.

We do need a constant stream of volunteers to help with timing and distance recording so don't be shy if you are asked to help.

Only I am allowed to beat James and even that needs Tracy's permission.

Mike
