Default Dr Way Yin, one of our own here on FFF

The Doctor Is In with Way Yin

One of our 'home grown.' Way can cast, and cast a very long way. Came in third at Musto twice .... using a 15 foot rod against folks rodded up with 18's.

Thumbs up A Gentleman

'Speybubba' on another PNW Forum I sometimes post on. Met him, and Mr Simms (yes that Simms) at the Kelso Fair a couple of years ago.

Way also has one of the US's premier 'pain clinics' up in Bellingham, Washington.

Have fished with Way several times in Russia, 1st met him on the flight from Stockholm to Murmansk where I sat next to him and he commented on my bad back, then he introduced himself ! I still use the 10' 6# Scott he gave me and the prototype SA Multitip lines. I had to squeeze Way and Steve Choate into the back of my Porsche 968 once plus a huge rod tube and my mate Neil to take them to the CLA Gamefair at Broadlands, like sardines in a tin as Way's a tall guy!
I think Way's understanding of the human bodies mechanics is why he's a great caster, Spey to Z is a great DVD

Good call I-9, that had never occurred to me and you could well be right. But as a caster -one on one- I'd put my money down on Steve.

Way back in the day (Wife and I sponsored "Charity Spey Casting Clinics") Way/Steve were our instructors (just paid their hard costs) and Way did most of the 'verbal,' Steve did the demo's. At one, the XLT lines were in the development stages so the fellows got to try lines that weren't even in boxes yet.

That aside, Steve loaded up someone's rod with one of the lines and within 4-5 casts he had 150 foot of line+leader in the air. For all of us, it was a "OH GOD!" moment.

Now, here, in the casting comps ... if you can't shoot 150' don't bother to show up save for the camaraderie of the thing. You're an 'also ran.' James, and the Carron Team, always show very high in the standings.

It was the proyotypes of the XLT lines that Way gave me, I saw a few rods (no names)broken in Russia with the amount of line Way aerilised, I have to agree Steve's the man, one time at the CLA Gamefair casting competition here in the UK Way was leading then Steve beat him on his last cast, got to be known as Last Cast Steve!

Well I'll be darned! I've known of Steve's 'nick-name' for years but had no idea where it came from. Was under the impression (wrongly) that it referred to fishing as long as he could. Seen Steve actually fishing by moon light with a two hander. Legal 'back then' (don't know if it's the same now) to fish from an hour before sun up to one hour after sun down.

Woosh and out the line would go. Man, this is a walk back in time.

Because it looked like Way had it "in the bag" the crowd went crazy when Steve beat him by a narrow margin, great atmosphere !!!
I remember the 1st time Way turned up in Russia with a box full of beautiful fully dressed salmon singles, much to nice to fish with.

For those of you not familiar with Dr Way Yin's Spey to Z DVD there was a review a while ago here Spey to Z DVD - featuring Dr. Way Yin, Topher Brown & Greg Pearson Note that the Link to purchase it is no longer valid although the DVD is still available to purchase elsewhere. BTW Topher Brown is coming over to the CLA Gamefair next week for a book signing.
