Default roll casting with light lines

Any tips for successful roll casting with 3 wgt or smaller rods 0f 8 ft or less?

Grant, get yourself a Micro Practice Rod from Tim Rajeff, practice (practice and practice) at home and then you wont have a problem with roll casting any more

Can you roll cast with a longer rod rated for a heavier line? What concerns or problems do you have about the 8' #3?

I often use a 7.5 ft 3/4

If anything it's easier than with a heavy rod. It's quite possible you will prefer one line size heavier than you would with an overhead cast.

Don't be afraid to change the angle of the rod on the final delivery: a 45 deg angle on the forward cast especially off the left shoulder can work wonders in certain wind conditions.

strange that spey casts can be more fun on a single hand rod, more inventive.

You have more ways and more freedom with a single handed rod thats true. Not that i'm an expert with a spey rod, haven't really got into that, i have a hard enough time explaining the dutch people why i'm flyfishing now..

Hell it doesn't really matter what kind of fly rod, as long as i can see that loop roll i'm ok....... Oh this must sound sad.. I do have a life, really, i do..

Not sad Jerry, mad
I love when you show someone on a river how to spey with a single handed rod and how it opens up the river. Being able to cast to pools and riffles otherwise missed. That is the joy of this casting lark. Yes we are sad but I could not care less if people think that, I am as happy as Larry, couldn't be happier
