Default More double haul issues

Having a wee bit of trouble hauling on the backcast, with softer rods.

If I haul with a shakespere trion 7wt (stiff as a poker). No problems at all.

Yet for some reason, when I haul on the backcast with a redington (Bit softer). I seem to get slack, it's as if I can't quite give the line back without creating slack.

Any ideas why ?

is the slack between your line hand and the stripper ring? ie. the line doesnt pull out?

i'd venture a more defined stop might help.

But dont over exaggerate the stop, otherwise its just going to unload. Try stopping a fraction earlier maybe?

Yes just there between the reel and guide, fine on the forward cast. Fine with a fast rod.

A more defined stop on the back cast, makes sense. I shall work on it tomorrow.

Shockingly I agree.

Anjisan, are you using the same line on each rod? if not could be dirty line. secondly it could be a timing issue, you may be unconsciously trying to push line back up the rod. Remember it all happens a little slower with a softer rod

See, wha-do-I-know...

Frank, are we unloading to allow the 'reload' to have more impact? I just do this stuff, but tried to work through Anjinsans problem in my minds eye...

Clearly my minds eye needs bifocals

I thought (clearly wrongly) that the purpose of 'the give' was to accelerate line speed slightly before the forward cast to ensure maximum loading???

DN, basically the unload is part of the sequence that allows loop formation, we stop the rod then the rod begins to unload, as it completes its unload the line begins to travel faster than the rod tip. At this point the line passes over the rod tip an the loop is formed. The loop then unfurls until straight when next casting stroke begins, thus beginning to reload the rod.

You can't reload a rod that is loaded you can only increase the load.

Regarding giving back line it when I think about it it serves two purposes, I to maintain the amount of line being used to load the rod between front and back casts. The other purpose is to bring the hands back together for the next haul.
