I cast with about about 50 50 wrist and arm is there anything wrong with this or am I robbing myself of distance for instance?

depends what your doing with your wrist during the stroke, the wrist should be the last thing to articulate, and with care on the back cast.

Think about what happens to your rod tip when you roll your wrist, literally just stand there and watch your rod tip when you do it. Then think when you're doing this action in your current cast, do you want your rod tip to be doing this, chances are, no.

I have a different opinion on this, I personally think that an uncontrolled wrist whilst casting is one of the most common and a major fault.

However, a controlled wrist can be a good thing.

I believe I would need to see you cast before judging, I fish with a chap that is a very wristy caster but he has really tight loops with a high line speed.

Could be a fun discussion this one

same opinion surely, uncontrolled is never going to be usefull, but used to do something it can only add.

a ritz storm cast is a good example of adding a wrist, and elbow, movement to effect...although its hard to stop doing it when you start.

in the second half of the forward presentation stroke, you quickly and simultaniously raise the elbow and tip the wrist forward, the arm is extended rather than stopping at 45 degrees but you hold there without dropping the rod tip.

has the effect of compressing the tip curve and creating a very straight line with the rod tip, and a very narrow loop, penetrates wind like magic.
done slowly it lets the energy dissapate from the line giving long narrow loops that land very gently,

malcolm you see me do this regularly!

So the rod points in the same direction of your straightened arm?
