I'm with you on this one, Frank. Should we make a distinction between "rodhand" and "linehand"?

Casting stroke, the linear distance the rod hand travels during a cast, from stop to stop.

Casting arc, The angular change of the rod during a cast.

Casting Plane ; The 180 degree path of the rod/line or hand during the casting movements which can be tilted to any angle.

Don't know, Brian, but at least you guys should be up to it

Please correct me :

Casting Plane : the path of the rod hand/rod in a 180° angle left and right of the angler during casting movements.

Forward cast : the forward movement of the rod starting from the backstop/follow through point or from the moment the rod hand moves forward in a continuous cast.

Backward cast : the backward movement of the rod starting from the front stop or from the moment the rod hand moves backward in a continuous cast.

... this is why Jason Borger ended-up writing a book on casting as a series of modules which can be fitted together 'as you like it' to form any number of casts

And why the Federation of Fly Fishers (www.fedflyfishers.org/) still hasn't published a set of definitions after SIX years of embarking on the task!

Judging by S/L this all goes pear shaped when you get to drift/creep
