Default 6wt Recommendations

Being about to start on the long road to getting a casting qualification I've been advised that a 9' 6wt is probably the best rod size and weight to go with as a practice and assessment rod. As I don't yet have any 6wts (every other bloody size and weight under the sun of course!) can any of you recommend a few different rods to try out with a view to purchase? I'm guessing that I'd probably be best off with a medium/fast rather than something super fast or 'cane' slow. All makes and prices considered. I will of course be trying before I buy...

Cheers

Andy

Nothing wrong with using a five weight if you have one ,no need to spend more if you dont have to, i dont own a six weight and if i went for my apgai i would use my five xp or similar

Dear Andy ,

I thought it was mean of them to sack you off of the telly for a bit of banter - however be sure that this is no replacement career to make serious money with.

When you've done paying out to be assessed by some very odd folks and jumped through the hoops you'll likely find that you can't even make regular weekly fag money because there's now more allegedly qualified coaches out there than actual beginners !

Frankly please reconsider - do anything different - anything at all !

I shall miss those comments - perhaps you could grovel and get back on TV in a bit - or maybe the Chelsea/Liverpool/West Brom/Arsenal/Hammers jobs will come up and you could surely get one of those given that Sven still hasn't been found out after all these years !

best wishes

Steve P

But then and again - I've actually met some !

( They sometimes call this sort of thing ' humour ' - I suspect we need more of it ! )

Congratulations!
As the 100th (or is it 1000th?) person to make a side splitting joke about my shamed namesake you win a cigar! I really do laugh out loud every time!

Anyway, joking aside, I'm doing this for myself, a bit of discipline in a very undisciplined world if you like. So, can you recommend anything?

Andy Grey (with an E, not an A like the sexist bloke off the telly!)

Andy,

My details are in my signature, on my website is my phone number, give me a call and I will tell you about the rods I tried and what I settled on, I will also try to put you in touch with someone local to you that may have a few rods for you to try

Did I offend you Steve, after all you seem to be able to dish out the stick to any instructor coach, guide whatever but you don't seem to able to take it, or isn't sarcasm humor any more....

Chris

Sian - who is running the line Saturday at the Blackpool v Villa match - thanks you for the massive career boost.

She unhesitatingly recommend the Scott S4 9' #6 although she can't really define the action (head overfull after memorizing the offside rule?) she maintains it's the perfect tool for your purpose: "Don't even bother trying anything else; it has kudos and a great gray finish."
They are now hard to find in the UK, a few have sold in 'classifieds', expect to pay £200+ for a good example.
