Default Noisy Minn Kota motor

I have a Minn Kota Endura 36 battery motor, have it about 8 years now. It has had a fair bit of use in the last 4 years. Recently it had developed a rough sound when in operation, worst in reverse. Probably means the motor is on the way out, can these motors be repaired?

Probably just the bearings behind the prop. Can be repaired, suggest you try boat dealers who deal with electric engines, different makes are all much the same and minn kota spares easily sourced.

The first thing I'd do is to remove the prop and make sure you haven't got a bunch of discarded mono or other debris wrapped around the shaft of the motor.

From there, I agree with John, most likely the bearings. Wheather or not it's viable to replace these depends on how much your closest repair shop charges for labor.

thanks guys, i will take off the prop and check. If it were the bearings would it be possible to replace myself or is it very complicated. Would you know of anywhere online I could source the bearings?
Cheers

Mate,

The exact same thing has happened to mine and I would be very interested in how you resolved your motor.

Thanks again

Haven't looked at my motor yet, it sounds like bearing wear as the lads say. Will have a look and find out about bearings, will let you know how I get on.

It depends on your mechanical skill and what you define as "very complicated". I'd say if you take reasonable care, work slowly, and carefully observe how it comes apart (including taking notes and pictures), anyone with reasonable mechanical skills should be able to do it.

Here's the outfit I've used for parts. They also have good scematic diagrams. I think they'd ship to you in NI if you phoned in your order.

Personally, I'd consider buying the brush replacement kit which includes the bearings and the motor brushes. No sense going to this level of disassembly and not replacing the brushes. Look carefully on the scematic to make sure all the bearings are included in that kit for your model.

You can look up a diagram for your specific model on this site. BTW, make sure if you do the brush kit, you order the one for the correct diameter motor housing. There are 2 kits that look exactly the same, but one is for larger motors, one is for smaller.

Adrian at Butterstone used to supply parts and do repairs, he fixed mine when it had the same problem. Loch changed ownership recently and I'm not sure if he is still there. He is however still involved at Frandy Fishery who are on the forum. Might be worth sending them a pm re UK parts suppliers/advice.
