Default Anchor system for float tubes?

So i just got my first float tube. I haven't used it yet, but I'm assuming an anchor is one of the things you want incase it gets a tad windy out there. What sort of anchors do you guys use, and how do you usually deploy it? Try to have it closer to the front, or closer to the back? Any tips would be welcome.

Hi ssjchar I use a downrigger ball as an anchor on my float tube, it is easy to use, no sharp edges and it does not get caught up in the weed when retrieving. The most popular option I have seen is a length of galvanised chain inside a mesh bag, works very well and costs sod all.
I use para cord as my line and put it on a hand caster so it is easy to store and use, and clip it to the back of my tube so it is out of the way while fishing.
Hope this helps.
All the best.
Mike.

Thanks for the reply. I had heard that a mesh bag filled with misc. was a good idea, and had heard that rocks make good misc., but I would hate to trek a few km only to find out there aren't any suitable misc. rocks to use, so chains could be something i look in to. I was also contemplating a circular weight, though how heavy should i go? 2 lbs perhaps? can't wait to try out my tube. maybe i'll just take it to the local trout pond or slough to try some aquatic acrobatics.

I use a small 0.7 kg galvanised anchor that I got off ebay with 2' light chain and para chord....... when I hook into a fish, to prevent it getting tangled in the rope ,I have attached a small float which I can let go and move away. once fish has been netted I can retrieve the float...

Do you guys spend much time at anchor? I just fin to stay where I want to be, although I don't tube anywhere big enough for the wind to be much of a factor.

I had a go once - a brick on a piece of string worked perfectly adequately - but I didn't see the point - so I stopped - like ffc I just fin quietly and I'll move it side to side so I'm fishing new water with every cast !

I know one or two Danes who deliberately anchor off the mouths of smallish feeder streams into the Baltic and just sit there waiting for Seatrout in the Evenings . Offhand I can't think of any other justification .

Don't spend money on one - you'll likely never make use of it to justify the cost

Best wishes

Steve P

I have one of these, it fits very conveniently in the pocket of my tube.

Hi Mate

A Divers net knife is NOT "pointy" i would never carry anything pointy in my float tube
