Default new ron thomson tube

just saw the new ron thomson tube...anybody know anything about it? it really looks the part,i do have a shakey but i started off with a ron thomson earlier model thought it was ok but didnt like the single tube idea this new model has offset pockets and a higher seating position which i like and also has two tubes,i really like the idea of the offset pockets as i feel the pockets on the shakey get in the way! i know ron thomson doesnt get a really good name these days, was just tryin to get some info maybe its a goodun?

I'm inclined to suggest that the more you downsize the boat, the more you should upgrade the minimum quality requirements...... do you wear a cut price life jacket too? No jacket on cost grounds?
Use of cheap tubes is like deciding to save money for a night on the town, by not getting the brakes of your car serviced. RT are cheap tubes, along with certain other "brands". Funny that - a "brand" used to be a mark of quality one time.

I value my expected years of life at greater monetary value than the cost savings from buying any make of "budget" tube, and I carefully weigh up terms like triple stitching, urethane bladders, quality control, warranty etc. So Ron Thompson (aka Svenska, made cheapo in far east) would not cut it for me .

Dear Enery ,

Half the folks who buy tubes wind up with one of my inflatable seat cushions under their backsides to get a little higher - so they can strip lures and blobs a bit easier !

I have them on eBay all the time but they are even cheaper direct !

As are my very own triple bladder tubes ( so now you know who designed the Shakey one - and before you get uppity about my complete duplicity - frankly I did that because I was being taken out of the market by real rubbish from China sold by non tubers to the unsuspecting - so I cut my losses and went for the dough ! )

Having said which I did teach the Chinese all they know but I sort of failed to teach them all I know ( you don't play all the cards unless in real need ) - you'll find that mine are somewhat nicer to fish from and we leave it at that !

Best wishes

Steve P

dear steve,
i already have one of your inflatable doughnuts .
the thing that bothers me is that i actually paid more for my ron thomson tube than i did for my shakey? so has price got anything to do with it?
i personally would love to buy everything british and keep jobs here but sometimes my pocket dictates otherwise(im poor) i was interested in your tube but then saw the price and as i was just staring out couldnt afford to risk it,since then i have saw one of your tubes close up and like them!
i just saw the ron thom and liked the design and the price,i like my shakey but dont like the restrictions i have with the pockets on the armrests which i still have even with your doughnut(im a short ****!)
is everything from china ****?

regards enery.

Dear enery ,

You are pretty much right - everything bar for what I make personally is likely from China - I believe the Ron Thompson tube costs around $26 freighted and that is maybe what it is intrinsically worth .

Pricing is amusing - it is a combination between need and rapacity ( greed in english) when the Chinese have wiped us manufacturers out - watch what happens next !

And I'm so sorry I can't compete with the Chinese - I have to pay UK Rates for everything - and I just hate that bowl of rice a day !

Take care

Steve P

who knows maybe i will treat myself to one of your tubes and bob around feeling proud to have helped our nation(take note all in angling land)
good for you for sticking to your guns ..... keep sticking and maybe... well who knows, anyways thanks for the input and advice its been a pleasure!

regards enery.
